Is homeschooling legal for my Bukit Indah or Setia Indah family?
Yes. Under Section 135(1) of the Education Act 1996, Malaysian children aged 6–12 are required to be enrolled in primary school unless the parent obtains an exemption from the State Education Department (JPN), forwarded to the Ministry of Education for approval — a process that typically takes 4–8 weeks and requires a written curriculum plan, which Dreamtime provides as part of enrolment. Secondary-level homeschooling has more flexibility under the same Act. Non-citizen and expatriate families across Bukit Indah and Setia Indah, including cross-border households, are generally not subject to this requirement.
